One more thing!

Just kidding, not my last post!

I forgot to mention that I was featured on Colectivo Futuro as a "Colectivo Futurist" interview. A lot of great sites and blogs have been picking me up lately and I'm so honored.

New work + last post?

Thank you all for the wonderful comments and e-mails from my last post. It's been working out really well working for myself. It gets a little unnerving at times thinking I don't have a guaranteed paycheck on the way, but it's overall the best move I could have made.

Here is a sneak peak at a few pieces that will be in my March solo show at Milwaukee's Sky High Gallery.

Southwestern Native American and Central American art has definitely made it's way into my design process.

Here are a few commissioned pieces I did for the super talented Ada Mayer of Leisure Package blog and Immortal Collection (for which I did a trade for two amazing necklaces!)

We chatted over e-mail about incorporating her new (adorable) cat Marlo into my style for a commission. Usually I dread personalizing my artwork with another person's ideas, but this time I was really excited for realizing Marlo as a folk character in striking New Mexican textile inspired garments. I created a little narrative of Marlo as a fisherman (Ada says he's big into water and suspects him as a fisherman in a past life) and a portrait of Marlo as a shamanic figure holding a scorpion (another nod to the Southwest).

This might be my last post here on the ol' blogspot. I'm crossing my fingers the tumblr site will be up this week. I'm so excited! I hope you all keep in touch.

Bye bye for now!

SO MUCH GOOD NEWS!

Firstly, a piece I contributed to Portland's Compound Gallery, the Blazer Mania group show a couple of weeks ago. This piece was my re-imagined Trailblazer mascot Blaze the Trail Cat. What is a trail cat? Something the NBA mascot elders dreamed up? Either way, here it is and it even got a cool write up along with the rest of the show in the Portland Mercury. The show is truly amazing.
I did a little research on Portland and the Oregon state and threw in some state pride for good measure: Douglas Fir and some cute Western Meadowlark birdies swallowing some worms.

Secondly,
I QUIT MY JOB.

Wow, it's been a long time coming and I finally mustered up the courage to do it. This came right when great sites like FFFFOUND and But Does It Float and other highly-trafficked design inspiration sites started posting my work like mad. E-mails upon e-mails have flooded in with inquiries about personal commissions, information, etc.

I DO TAKE PERSONAL COMMISSIONS.
YES YES YES!

It's now my livelyhood, so feel free to e-mail me if you're hoping to snatch up a Stacey Rozich original. I've gotten a lot of questions if I even do this, and YES! I do.

Thirdly (is that a word?) Staceyrozich.com is due to launch sometime this week. I am beyond excited for this. I've been working with web design phenom Barry Sevig a.k.a Camp Doug to help me design a highly-functioning portfolio site and blog. But here's catch:

I'M MOVING TO TUMBLR.

Right as I see the number of followers on this blog sky rocket (seriously, it's gone up like 100 people
since a couple of weeks ago.) I'm making the jump to a more image-based server. Though Blogspot has been good to me, I feel like it's time to make the move to a place like Tumblr that will optimize my web presence. I really hope all you lovely folks will come with me and keep up with what I'm doing once this site has moved. I'm planning on a little give away too, once the site is up for the first couple of readers. Stay tuned for that.

With this new found freedom from a job I didn't really like, I'm focusing more energy on school and on running a really great blog, portfolio and store. I'm super excited about all of the prints and tee shirts I'm going to be selling. For those out there that don't have room in their budget for original artwork, never fear! Affordable high-quality prints are on their way.

In drawing this little novella to a close, I wanted to thank all of you wonderful readers and occasional viewers for supporting me and helping me make the change in my life that I've dreamed about for so long. It's a scary time, but I know in my heart I've made the right choice to work full-time on my artwork. In the coming days I'll be chronicling my progress, new work and up-coming shows I've been cooking up and generally all of my adventures.

Thanks for reading and keep in touch.

Love,

Stacey

Saturday Night's alright for painting

A couple of years ago, hell probably a year ago, I probably would have felt like a dummy for staying in on a Saturday night to paint and watch kitten YouTube videos. Times have changed and I cherish my time spent alone and well, after last night's epic NYE party I welcome this night of getting things taken care of wholeheartedly.
Picture above is my often cluttered work space, a piece for Portland's Compound Gallery group show "Blazer Mania" showcasing different artists rendition of "Blaze" the trail cat, the Portland Trail Blazer's NBA mascot. I've been a big basketball fan for a while and since Seattle no longer has a team (tears) my nearest team is the Blazers. Image of this piece to follow!

Blazer Mania opens Thursday January 6th, 2011.

Piece for Meghann

Finally I was able to close the chapter of 2010 last night and ring in another promising year. I also finally gave Seattle jewelry designer Meghann Sommer the piece I owed her. I got a gorgeous necklace and bracelet as a trade for this small piece from me.

Ah, trades. How I am able to get my grubby mits on some of the nicest things are by bargaining and using my artwork as currency in trade for goods and services.
