New work + last post?

Thank you all for the wonderful comments and e-mails from my last post. It's been working out really well working for myself. It gets a little unnerving at times thinking I don't have a guaranteed paycheck on the way, but it's overall the best move I could have made.

Here is a sneak peak at a few pieces that will be in my March solo show at Milwaukee's Sky High Gallery.

Southwestern Native American and Central American art has definitely made it's way into my design process.

Here are a few commissioned pieces I did for the super talented Ada Mayer of Leisure Package blog and Immortal Collection (for which I did a trade for two amazing necklaces!)

We chatted over e-mail about incorporating her new (adorable) cat Marlo into my style for a commission. Usually I dread personalizing my artwork with another person's ideas, but this time I was really excited for realizing Marlo as a folk character in striking New Mexican textile inspired garments. I created a little narrative of Marlo as a fisherman (Ada says he's big into water and suspects him as a fisherman in a past life) and a portrait of Marlo as a shamanic figure holding a scorpion (another nod to the Southwest).

This might be my last post here on the ol' blogspot. I'm crossing my fingers the tumblr site will be up this week. I'm so excited! I hope you all keep in touch.

Bye bye for now!

  2. She did not hear the study door close, but a minute or so later there was a dreadful cry in the room below. It was a wild, hoarse scream, so strange and unnatural that it might have come either from a man or a woman. At the same instant there was a heavy thud, which shook the old house, and then all was silence. The maid stood petrified for a moment, and then, recovering her courage, she ran downstairs. The study door was shut and she opened it. Inside, young Mr. Willoughby Smith was stretched upon the floor. At first she could see no injury, but as she tried to raise him she saw that blood was pouring from the underside of his neck. It was pierced by a very small but very deep wound, which had divided the carotid artery. The instrument with which the injury had been inflicted lay upon the carpet beside him. It was one of those small sealing-wax knives to be found on old-fashioned writing-tables, with an ivory handle and a stiff blade. It was part of the fittings of the professor's own desk.

  4. Aha!" said he, turning to the footman. "So you're the scoundrel, are you? Well done! Well done! Where was he caught?"

    I had no idea.

"Here's Lady Melrose's door open," said Crowley. "Lady Melrose! Lady Melrose!"

"You forget she's deaf," said Lord Amersteth. "Ah! that'll be her maid."

An inner door had opened; next instant there was a little shriek, and a white figure gesticulated on the threshold.

"Ou donc est l'ecrin de Madame la Marquise? La fenetre est ouverte. Il a disparu!"

  5. He said: "I lost a good friend in my dad and someone who I think brought me up in a proper way.

"He was never really as concerned about my golf as he was bringing me up as a decent person.

"I think the birth of my second daughter did spread a little grace on the situation. It was not easy but I was able to concentrate my efforts on a new life - and my kids and family made everything a little bit closer."

  6. Again the professor burst into high-keyed laughter. He had risen to his feet, and his eyes glowed like embers.

"You are mad!" he cried. "You are talking insanely. I helped her to escape? Where is she now?"

"She is there," said Holmes, and he pointed to a high bookcase in the corner of the room.

I saw the old man throw up his arms, a terrible convulsion passed over his grim face, and he fell back in his chair. At the same instant the bookcase at which Holmes pointed swung round upon a hinge, and a woman rushed out into the room. "You are right!" she cried, in a strange foreign voice. "You are right! I am here."

  7. “What’s that supposed to be?”
“This, Harry, is the secret of our success,” said George, patting the parchment fondly.
“It’s a wrench, giving it to you,” said Fred, “but we decided last night, your need’s greater than ours.”
“Anyway, we know it by heart,” said George. “We bequeath it to you. We don’t really need it anymore.”
“And what do I need with a bit of old parchment?” said Harry.
“A bit of old parchment!” said Fred, closing his eyes with a gri¬mace as though Harry had mortally offended him. “Explain, George.”

  8. The game is played on a rectangular field of grass or green artificial turf, with a goal in the middle of each of the short ends. The object of the game is to score by driving the ball into the opposing goal. In general play, the goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with their hands or arms, while the field players typically use their feet to kick the ball into position, occasionally using their torso or head to intercept a ball in midair.

I hoped that he would love me,
And he has kissed my mouth,
But I am like a stricken bird
    That cannot reach the south.
For though I know he loves me,
    To-night my heart is sad;
His kiss was not so wonderful
As all the dreams I had.

The word "animal" comes from the Latin word animalis, meaning "having breath". In everyday colloquial usage, the word usually refers to non-human animals. Sometimes, only closer relatives of humans such as mammals and other vertebrates are meant in colloquial use.The biological definition of the word refers to all members of the kingdom Animalia, encompassing creatures as diverse as sponges, jellyfish, insects and humans.

  13. If the artist had sheathed the blade or blunted it there could be no objection. Sheathing is symbolic of peace, of course; the blunted sword implies mercy. But a broken sword carries with it only unpleasant associations. A sword is broken when its owner has disgraced himself. It is broken when a battle is lost and breaking is the alternative to surrendering. A sword is broken when the man who wears it can no longer render allegiance to his sovereign.

The show's premise originated with Paul Attanasio, while David Shore, who is credited as creator, was primarily responsible for the conception of the title character. It is largely filmed in Century City. House often clashes with his fellow physicians, including his own diagnostic team, because many of his hypotheses about patients' illnesses are based on subtle or controversial insights
